Boone Brewing Company – Boone North Carolina

This month’s ‘treats’ were courtesy of Boone Brewing Company’s (http://www.boonebrewing.com/) Todd Rice and Jeff Walker (Jerry Jeff? I think not…). Both owners call the Blue Ridge Mountains home. They invite you to ‘go to the Ale!’
Their Blowing Rock High Country Ale (no sh-t!) is an American style ale that is fermented with a proprietary ale yeast strain that provides a distinct fruity-ester aroma and favor. The deep golden product is characterized by a balanced hop bitterness and evident but not overwhelming hops aroma.
Todd? Jeff? My first suggestion – CAN the ‘distinct fruity-ester aroma and flavor’. Good ales don’t need fruity-anything… On Woody’s scale of 1-10, I give this ale a 3.
Their Blowing Rock Bock (hey, it rhymes…) is fermented with a proprietary lager yeast strain and aged for 5 weeks. Typical of the traditional German Bock style, its light copper tone is characterized by a toasty malt backbone derived from a combination of domestic 2 row malt and imported German specialty malts. This was good, really good – no sh-t! I gave this bock an 8.
Drink one for me,
Woody
